I’ve been waiting all week to make this marmalade. I bought my grapefruit yesterday, but didn’t see the tiny print on the corner of the box that stated: “…one or more of the following used as a fungicide: Imazalil, thisbenazole, sodium-o-phenylphenate.” Is it possible to scrub these chemicals off of the peel?
It’s always a good idea to scrub citrus fruits, but I’m not really sure how much, if any, of any fungicides you would be able to scrub off. Undoubtedly, some of these chemicals have penetrated the peel: this is why I try to recommend organic citrus for marmalade, or any recipe that uses the peel. However, plenty of people eat non-organic marmalade: it’s really up to you.

Hi Cynthia,

Hope that helps,
