Wild strawberries growing in our backyard - very local!

About three or four times a year, usually about once per season, some friends and I gather together for a completely local meal. We plan a menu based upon what is available at the local farmer’s markets, divide up the dishes between us, and gather at one of our homes for an afternoon of delicious, 100% local food & drink.

Last weekend I was the host and we lucked out with a rare, 4-hour window of sun in the endless rainy weather. Sadly I didn’t manage to take any pictures of the bounty, but, just in case you are planning your own version of “local potluck”, I’ve presented the menu below.

  • Scottish whole grain rolls
  • Grilled Flying Pigs sausages: Jamaican Jerk, Hot Italian and Chorico
  • Grilled Flying Pigs pork cutlets, marinated in a mixutre of homemade raspberry-apple jam, wild raspberry vinegar (both put up last summer), local wildflower honey and local chile’ powder
  • Grilled local chicken thighs with homemade Local 131 BBQ Sauce
  • Grilled chicken breast (Empire Kosher Organic), marinated in Rhubarb BBQ Sauce
  • Fresh green salad with radishes and Blueberry-Goat Cheese Dressing
  • Local vegetable gratin with potatoes, spinach, and green garlic
